What is a skin scent?
Updated 3 October 2026
A skin scent is a soft perfume that sits close to the body. People notice it when they lean in, not from across the room. It smells like you, only better.
What it is made of
Most skin scents are built on soft musks, ambrette (a musky note from a seed) and warm amber notes like ambroxide. Musks are also where science has found the clearest differences between noses. That is why a skin scent can seem a little different from person to person. Here is why.
Not a new idea
Juliette Has a Gun's Not a Perfume (2010) and Glossier You (2017) both sold on the same promise: smell like yourself, only better. Both use this same family of materials.
How to wear one
Spray on warm spots: wrists, the sides of the neck, inside the elbows. Then leave it alone. Your nose gets used to a soft scent fast, so do not judge it by your own nose after an hour. Others still notice it.
A skin scent is easy to wear every day: at work, at dinner, on the plane.
Our skin scent
AM Archive is fiæn's skin scent: clean and weightless, made for every day. Wear it alone, or spray a modifier on top. Notorious Streets gives it an edge. Inside Out warms it.
